The early beginnings of group life entailed the need for
leadership, a member of the tribe who will assume certain

obligations and responsibilities. Everyday relations and the

first division of labour in the tribal community imposed the
need for guidance, decision-making and development in

the tribal community. The leaders were chosen because of

their individual qualities. At the beginning, the physical
strength of the individuals was decisive for selecting the

quality leader. Later on, the leader had to possess wisdom
and ability to skilfully guide the community.

It was a natural process tat can now be seen in animals.
Any herd of elephants, a community of monkeys and

many other animals have a leader, i.e. an animal that
leads his herd, flock or group. Leaders have always been

replaced in a violent way. It usually happens when the

leader grow old or weak. The young ones grow, become
stronger and challenge the old leaders.

The leaders were often replaced in combats that either

produced a new leader or the old one remained.

As time went by, tribal relations changed. Tribal

communities grew larger for various reasons.
