One of the main reasons was the uniting of two or more
tribes. Tribal communities joined to become stronger.
Later on the groups grew larger, through a process of
peaceful negotiations or wars. By expanding and marking
their territories, they became states.
States were managed and governed by kings or emperors
who changed the system of selection of leaders. The title
of king or leader of a state was inherited – the prince, or
the son of the king, became the future king. It was no
longer necessary for the leader to be physically strong in
order to become the king. The title was received by way of
inheritance in the immediate royal family.
Not every king had the same ability and wisdom to lead
the country as his predecessor. The king’s wrong moves
sometimes had major consequences and even led to
dissolution of the kingdom. This imposed the need for a
better system of election of the leader.
The democratic system found today in most countries was
the best solution.
So today the leader is chosen by the people in elections
where the majority of votes decides who will lead them.
For leaders to be stronger and thus win elections they
