“Life brings more misery than joy.”
This is a statement by the great philosopher and sage,
Theophrastus (b. 370 BCE). He had come to this conclusion
before he died of old age. Many centuries later, we find ourselves
in an even more difficult situation. We think that by getting more
money we are going to achieve happiness and peace of mind.
Yet, achieving this goal brings only temporary happiness. Life
goes on and we are miserable again. As long as we have this
lesser goal we cannot attain serenity. We need to set higher
goals that will bring about social development.
The excitement we feel during our short-lasting happiness soon
wanes. We should strive for permanent serenity. Parents want
their children to have bright perspective and good life, they
struggle to raise and educate their children to have better start in
the society and it is good and normal, but until it happens parents
are worried. Parents invest huge efforts and sacrifice themselves
