Slavery is a period in which a man forced another
man to be his slave. Men were most often enslaved in
wars and later resold as spoils.
Soldiers who lost the war were taken prisoners by
the winners. These prisoners and defeated tribes became
slaves. Slaves served their masters who even had the
right to kill them and not be held responsible. This period
is typical for the time of the Roman Empire.
Feudalism was a period in which the landlord
could own both land and title of lord, duke, earl, etc.,
granted to him by the king of the state. Peasants who
worked on the fief (the estate of the lord), received
money to feed their families. Landlords owned great
estates and were very powerful. They had influence on
the politics of their state.
Capitalism is a social system in which democracy
comes first and private capital is protected by the state.
So, in a way, the textbooks were right. However, all
these historical periods share certain elements. They are
